After dispatching the Italian giants of Juventus last week, we get the chance to complete a remarkable double when we visit White Hart Lane this Wednesday night in a FA Cup quarter-final replay. With the original tie, at Craven Cottage, a little on the drab side purists will be looking for a more rip-roaring affair this time around, especially with the added bonus of a semi-final tie, at Wembley, against Portsmouth awaiting the winners.
Fulham start this FA Cup quarter-final as under-dogs, but the cup has a history of bigger upsets than Fulham beating Spurs.
Zoltan Gera, after playing a huge part in downing the mighty Juventus, has spoken out about the fixture, remarking,
"This is a big occasion for the players, fans and the club.'
'It will be an important night for us all, and hopefully I can play my part. I am pleased with my season so far, but there is always more that you can do."
'I have managed to score some important goals, and I would like to do so again. It's always nice to score, but of course, when it has a greater importance for the team that is great."
'But it's not just about one player, this is a team and we all have the same hopes for Wednesday - we all want to go through.'
Hopefully those hopes will materialise!
Harry Redknapp, with eyes on a second FA Cup win in three years but with different clubs, will be without the injured Jermain Defoe. Younes Kaboul is cup tied but pundits suggest Harry will recall Wilson Palacios to the starting eleven after the player missed the trip to Stoke at the weekend.
Spurs squad:- Gomes, Alnwick, Corluka, Bassong, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Rose, Bentley, Kranjcar, Modric, Palacios, Bale, Pavlyuchenko, Crouch, Gudjohnsen, Livermore, Dervite, Parrett, Fredericks, Townsend, Kane
The tricky Croatian has the ability to turn a match on its head in an instant. Let`s hope we can deny him the space in which to operate.
Roy Hodgson enters the fixture hoping that his defensive rock, Brede Hangeland, is fit again after missing the recent defeat to Manchester City. Elsewhere, Simon Davies, Danny Murphy and Paul Konchesky will all be hoping to play a significant part in knocking their former club out of the FA Cup.
Possible Fulham starting eleven:- Schwarzer, Baird, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Duff, Murphy, Etuhu, Davies, Gera and Zamora.
Continues to defy the critics and continues to score with regularity. A brace against Spurs would go down well Bobby!
Spurs enter the fixture in by far the better run of form; the North London side are unbeaten in seven fixtures. Fulham, on the other hand, are notoriously poor on the road and their last away triumph was against Accrington Stanley in the 4th round of this competition. Spurs also have a 100% record, when it comes to going through, in FA Cup ties with Fulham.
Martin Atkinson will be the man with the whistle ably assisted by his two assistants Stephen Child and Simon Beck. The fourth official will be Lee Probert.
February saw Fulham go the whole month without losing thereby earning (Sir) Roy Hodgson the 'Manager of the Month` award. March has not been successful with wins not that common, one in seven I believe. So what better time to make it two in seven with a win over Spurs, I`m taking Bobby Zamora to get the winner in a 2-1 win that`ll send us to Wembley!
It`s a return to Premier League football this weekend with a trip to Hull, a trip that`ll see us encounter or old friend / foe Jimmy Bullard again.
