Fulham travel to the DW Stadium keen to keep their recent good run of form, in the Premier League going. After the trials and tribulations of Rome, let`s hope it`s not a performance that leaves us pondering where it all went wrong!
Participating in the Europa League has been a wonderful experience but Roy Hodgson has spoken about the downside, commenting,
"What happens is you get injuries as players don`t have time to recover."
And looking at our injury list he`s certainly hit the nail firmly on the head.
Roberto Martinez will be without the influential Maynor Figuero who has a knee injury. However, he could welcome back Erik Edman who has recovered from concussion.
The striker, whilst at Swansea, caused us trouble in the FA Cup last season and Roberto Martinez was quick to bring him to Wigan when he decided to take up the challenge the Premier League provides.
Roy Hodgson, once again, finds his squad stretched by injuries. Danny Murphy and Andrew Johnson remain doubtful. Simon Davies, we believe, is in contention and Dickson Etuhu is likely to get a central midfield berth. It`ll be interesting to see if Erik Nevland features; after all he was hardly stretched in Rome was he! Damien Duff is also likely to miss out through injury.
On a run, regular first team action seems to be paying dividends.
If we delve back into the history books, we find the record between the two sides is remarkably close.
Wigan have 10 victories to their credit, Fulham have 1311 having been drawn.
Although on the downside Wigan have never lost at home to Fulham in the Premier League.
Time to change that methinks!
The man in charge is none other than Mark Clattenburg
After a trip to Rome then a trip to the DW Stadium is something of a come down! But, all fixtures are important and if we`re continue our good run of form, form that has seen Roy Hpdgson lay claim to the Manager of the Month award for October then Wigan is the sort of place we need to get a result from. But, and it`s a big but, Wigan have a habit of putting in a good performance and that`s something I`m fearful of. Therefore, whilst my heart says a Fulham win my head says we`ll at best, get a draw.
It`s another away trip as far as our next Premier League action is concerned - Birmingham City in two weeks time!
