'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We`re Letting the Disabled Down!

In a recent survey of Premier League clubs, only two were found to provide enough spaces for disabled supporters.

The survey conducted by the National Association of Disabled Supporters (NADS) found that only Blackburn and Bolton had sufficient spaces with Arsenal falling just short.

Ourselves; along with Spurs and Pompey fell embarrassingly short with just a third of the required spaces.

With approximately 30,000 disabled supporters regularly attending matches in England, it looks as if football in general is putting up a poor show.

NADS had laid out their recommendations back in 2003 and these recommendations were endorsed by the Premier League and the Football Association, this makes the results even more shocking, in our opinion.

Radio Five Live, on investigating the matter got some responses from those who failed to meet the criteria.

Fulham, along with Pompey, said they hoped to increase their disabled capacity for wheelchair spaces should they both move to new grounds in the future.

A new ground? When? Where? Why? Or is it just to try and get out of trouble?

I think football in general has let them down - it should be sorted and quick!

This is really poor. I would have thought Fulham, being more of a local community minded team than some others I could mention, would have been near the top of this poll. Very very disappointing. Although I would point out that the survey is referring to wheelchair users, rather than people with disabilities in general. No reason someone with, for example, Down Syndrome, could not attend the ground and have a bloody good time of it (sorry for slightly lengthy post, I'm a social worker with children with disabilities so it's an issue I take some interest in).
