'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Uncle Roy on the cup defeat!

Sometimes, despite mitigating circumstances, events leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

Crashing out of the FA cup, to lowly Bristol Rovers, at the first hurdle is one such event. The FA Cup was supposed to provide a little salvation from the everyday pain the Premier League currently provides, but I suppose even the best laid plans can go astray.

However, to hear Roy Hodgson talk, in his post match interview, left us reeling, this is what he had to say,

"Jimmy Bullard was outstanding, considering he has not played for sixteen months; I thought I might have to take him off but I didn`t have to."

"In terms of our determination and aggression we matched Rovers. We have no reason to be ashamed of this."

"Of course it is a blow to lose. But this is not relevant in terms of the Premier League."

"Losing on penalties always leaves a bad taste in the mouth but I thought we were good value for 0-0 after one hundred and twenty minutes."

We`ll accept the Jimmy Bullard point, his contribution last night was immense, we`ll even accept the determination and aggression points as it was something we had to do but good value for 0-0, no!

We`re not intimating that Rovers deserved to win but we`re aghast at how low our current esteem is. Are we really pleased to be holding a side like Rovers to 0-0? Have we sunken that low?
