Where will the points come from?
Okay, so we`ve fifteen games left to play, we`re marooned on fifteen points, we`ve won only twice all season and the supposed safety target of forty points seems a long way off.
Indeed, forty points is some twenty-five points away, in simple terms we need 8 wins and a draw for almost guaranteed survival.
Our fixtures remaining are against -
at home Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland, Liverpool and Birmingham
away from home Bolton, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Newcastle, Derby, Reading, Manchester City and Portsmouth.
Looking at the home games you`d be fearful of our current chances of beating Manchester United, Everton and probably Liverpool. Therefore that leaves Aston Villa, West Ham, Sunderland and Birmingham. If 'Lady Luck` smiles on us that equates to a maximum of 12 points, still thirteen to achieve.
Away from home you`d rule out Blackburn, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Manchester City, leaving us a return of another twelve points, that`s assuming we break our current away day hoodoo.
Now can you see where I`m going?
Hodgson may remain optimistic but I`m just resigned to being very fearful of what lies ahead.

I'd be fearful 5 points adrift, I'd say your down to be honest you played 23 games with a return of 15 points, you do that for the rest of the season lucky to get another 15 points leave you with 30, which is no where near enough. I think Sanchez bought too many championship players and thats where your goin, shoulda stuck with coleman mustard

ouch! thats a nasty set of games!!! BUT, other worse teams than you have picked up that many points from tough fixtures (westbrom, pompey, even west ham) so if you can get on a role, you might just stay up...still, its a very big ask!!!

I can only see 19 points max from those games, sorry lads but you need some massive signings to stand a chance from here

I'm not saying we're gonna stay up (although I still hold on to some hope) but I seriously doubt that the 'stay-up' number of points this season will be as high as forty. I reckon teams that clear 32 or so will stay up and on that basis we've got as good a chance as sunderland, wigan and birmingham, all of whom are awful, awful teams as well (as well as us I mean).

It's a tough ask but remember that 5 of those fixtures are '6 pointers'. It's been done before and will be done again, so why not us?

mind you I agree about the 40 points total, a team could stay up with 30 this season cos Derby have lowered the bar so much!

We only won two with a ***** poor manager and tactics, Hodgson has shown already with his purchases/enquiries that he knows what needs srengthening. 4 or 5 additions and the return of some of our key players and things will change, I'm sure of it.

Get on the 6/5 odds now because when we beat Bolton, Boro beat Wigan and Sunderland draw with Brum next week, those odds will be slashed ;)

I think you're asking a lot to pick up more than a point against us (Villa) and west ham, as well as at Reading. It's going to be a tough season for you. If you go down, can we have Davis back :P?
