Survival or Cup Glory?
Our FA Cup tie with Bristol Rovers, this Sunday, throws up an interesting choice.
Whilst there is no doubting the magic of the FA Cup, I can`t help feeling that there are far more important matters to worry about.
A run in the FA Cup would provide welcome relief from our current Premier League situation but it could have and adverse effect.
Often clubs buoyed by a good cup run have a down turn in league form. Whilst accepting a down turn in our league form would be viewed as impossibility; you can probably see where I`m coming from.
In the grand scheme of things, Premier League survival is the be all and end all of our season.
Therefore, what I`m effectively saying is that a defeat to Bristol Rovers, although slightly embarrassing, wouldn`t be the end of the world.
After we`ve lived down all the guffaws coming from the media it would give Roy Hodgson time to concentrate on his number one priority.
Perhaps things would have been made easier if we`d drawn a bigger club in the third round!
Or am I simply barking up the wrong tree altogether?

Losing against bristol for the sake of the league would be suicide for Roy, League survival is more important obviosly but a good cup run could lift our spirits

I would much prefur a good cup run! As backslash2010 says it would provide a lift for the squad and if anything else give the fringe players an opotunity to show roy what they can do

Although if you were ot get to the final there is a chance you could do a Millwall and get European football!

I think the answer lies somewhere inbetween, go for the win with a smattering of reserves , youngsters or trying players in different positions.
Then either way, result wise, there will still be poitives.
