Al Fayed - 25 More Years!

With rumours circulating, earlier this year, about a possible takeover at Fulham, it now looks as if it will not happen.

Mr Al Fayed attended a dinner in his honour celebrating ten years in charge of Fulham, ten years during which the fortunes of our club have changed dramatically as we`ve moved form the lower divisions of the Football League to becoming an established Premier League club.

For some it has been a remarkable ride and Mr Al Fayed has spoken out about his ambitions and how things have gone, managerial wise, in the last few months.

With regard to the future, Mr Al Fayed had this to say regarding his continued presence as the owner of the club,

"For twenty-five years I hope. It`s possible."

"I take great pleasure in seeing the club move in the right direction. We`ve been in the Premier League now for nearly eight years. It`s really a miracle."

Moving on to the managerial situation and the massive spending spree this summer, Mr Al Fayed remarked,

"Lawrie Sanchez is doing a great job. I`m encouraging him, I`m behind him."

"He`s spent a lot of my money this season but I don`t regret it because we have a good team now."

"He`s intelligent, he`s committed and he wants to prove himself."

"I`m behind him and I hope we finish in the top ten."

Unfortunately, in the cut and thrust world of football, some would construe the remarks made above as the dreaded vote of confidence, or am I just being churlish?
