Coleman in Spain!

After leaving Fulham, Craven Cottage favourite, Chris Coleman found employment in Spain as coach of Real Sociedad.

With the Premier League now on hold due to mostly meaningless friendly international matches, we thought we`d do some investigation and see how Chris has been doing in Spain. It seems that, despite loving the experience, Chris has suffered mixed fortunes.

In pre-season, his side`s first three fixtures, all games his predecessor arranged, ended in draws prompting the often vociferous Spanish media to start haranguing the players.

Thankfully, Chris acknowledges that is just the way of life in Spain and he`s tried to convey to the media the size of the task ahead.

With the locals expecting promotion, Chris is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea as far as his team is concerned.

Situated in a Basque area, the expectations are that the team should have a lot of Basque`s in its squad; indeed, even Spanish players from outside the region are often classified as foreign by the locals.

Unfortunately, one obstacle still to be overcome relates to that of learning the language with Chris openly admitting this frustrates him having to rely on the services of an interpreter.

With the Spanish season yet to commence, we`ll endeavour to keep you informed as to how Cookie gets on in yet another remarkable challenge in his life!

However, we`ll leave you with a couple of Chris` thoughts relating to his teams position,

"We will be the top scalp in the Spanish second division but I cannot wait to get to grips with the new season."

"All we can do is concentrate on winning games - nobody wants to hear excuses."
