South China 1 Fulham 4

In the third / fourth place play off between Fulham and South China, it was Fulham that emerged victorious by four goals to one.

The result gave Fulham third place in the tournament behind Liverpool and the surprise eventual winners Portsmouth who beat Liverpool in a penalty shoot-out.

Fulham were always a class better then the South China side and should have taken the lead well before they did, however, Collins John missed two good chances before Papa Bouba Diop finally opened the scoring heading a Franck Queudrue free kick into the bottom corner.

Fulham should have increased the lead before half time but both Healy and John failed to capitalise when presented with relatively good chances.

The second goal of the game, a goal that doubled Fulham`s lead came early in the second half when Carlo Bocanegra headed home form six yards out.

Brief hope came for the home side when they pulled a goal back on fifty six minutes thanks to a spectacular volley by Flavio Barros Souza.

Thankfully, Fulham didn`t encounter a mini-collapse and instead made the game safe with two further goals. The first came in the seventy-third minute when David Healy dived to head past the keeper after a great cross from Simon Davies.

The fourth goal came with seven minutes when Brian McBride tapped in from close range. All in all, a good result.

a nice comfortable win - might have been different if you were playing all of China though?

Shows we were the best side out there. You beat the SOUTH CHINA SEA better than Liverpool and we beat them on penalties. It's a pity we didn't play you in the Final. PUP.
