Relegation may be looming and the words 'rats deserting a sinking ship` spring to mind.
However, it has always been on the cards seeing as Fulham have already declared that they have no intention of securing his services on a permanent basis due to his high salary.
Unfortunately, the fact that Vincenzo Montella is on the books of our club perhaps systemises why things have gone so wrong in recent weeks.
When he arrived, he started like a house on fire unfortunately the sending off against Tottenham Hotspur dampened his effectiveness and since then he has been unable to get back in the team on a regular basis.
Rumours are now circulating that Lawrie Sanchez wanted to introduce Montella as a substitute against Arsenal on Sunday but was dismayed to find he didn`t even have his boots on.
Cynics might say he was too busy filling them with cash.
Nevertheless, the fact that he is going does emphasise that, unless things change, we are a club in turmoil. A manager that is only temporary and an owner that would like to offload us.
Is it any wonder Montella can`t wait to get back to Italy? Here`s what he had to say,
"It`s been a great experience but I will go back to Rome. I want to prove myself in Italian football."
Would that be as opposed to playing in the Championship?
