Was Sanchez the First Choice?

After being a contract for thirty-two days, with the sole aim of keeping Fulham in the Premiership, rumours are circulating that Lawrie Sanchez was not the first choice.

A leading tabloid is reporting that Kevin Keegan (a former incumbent of the job) and Sven Goran Eriksson were both approached, by Al Fayed, to take over before the services of Chris Coleman were dispensed with. Both candidates decided against taking up the offer.

However, with Sanchez seemingly making plans to continue in his dual role of Fulham and Northern Ireland manager next season, another name has emerged as a front runner for the permanent position.

Although Sanchez has spoken about re-shaping the squad and organising the pre-season tour, the name of ex-Chelsea manager, Claudio Ranieri is now being linked with Craven Cottage.

Ranieri, who was famously ousted and labelled as a `Dead Man Walking` by the media prior to his sacking at Chelsea, has fond memories of the English game and would relish a return to London where he still has a residence.

We here at Vital Fulham will endeavour to keep you informed with regard to any further developments relating to this rumour
