After United stole the three points yesterday, Fulham manger, Chris Coleman let rip!
The target of his anger was the referee, Peter Walton.
Speaking after Ronaldo had scooped the points, Coleman pointed an accusing finger at Walton suggesting he bottled it.
Coleman referred to three incidents, al of which he believed Walton got totally wrong, these are,
- The refusal of the penalty late on when Helguson was clattered by Van der Sar
- Ferdinand not being sent off for throttling Radzinski
and
- Scholes persistent fouling not earning him a red card after having been shown the yellow earlier in the game.
This is what Coleman had to say,
"I don`t know why we didn`t get a penalty. The referee has no excuses - it was right in front of him."
"His positioning for that challenge was the only thing he got right all day, so there`s one way to put it - he lost his nerve."
"It would have been a blatant free-kick anywhere else on the pitch so it`s got to be a penalty. If it had been at the other end of the pitch and it was 1-1, the referee`s going to give a penalty."
"That`s not Manchester United`s fault - they are who they are. But against them you need strong referees and today we didn`t have one."
"Maybe he`s getting a lift home on the coach with Manchester United."
Continuing his tirade against Walton, he remarks,
"Ronaldo slams the ball five yards wide for a goal kick but Walton gives a corner. It was amazing."
"Then there`s Scholesy, who should have had three bookings but only got one."
"And I don`t want Rio Ferdinand sent off for raising his hands against Radzinski - he didn`t throw a deliberate elbow. But on another day another defender will get sent off for that."
Then reflecting on his outburst, Coleman wryly suggested,
"I`ll get another fine but nothing will happen to the referee. It`s so frustrating."
Couldn`t agree more Chris, couldn`t agree more!
