Fulham 1 Norwich City 1

The 2017 / 2018 Championship season got underway with Fulham taking on Norwich City, at Craven Cottage and dropping two points courtesy of a late equaliser.

It was a tale of two halves at Craven Cottage yesterday, with Fulham producing a good first forty-five minutes and then seeing the performance level drop and, ultimately, paying the price.

The first-half saw both sides create chances, Fulham looked good pushing forward but Norwich always looked dangerous coming forward and if Marley Watkins had put his scoring boots on the Canaries could have gone into the half-time break ahead.

As it was, that privilege was to belong to Fulham who earned a 1-0 lead when, with twenty-five minutes played a cross into the box, from Floyd Ayite, hit the heel of the Norwich City captain, Russell Martin and flew into the net.

A goal to the good, Fulham knew a second would probably finish Norwich off but the closest they came to doing so was when Neeskens Kebano hit the post. In the Norwich City goal, Angus Gunn, son of the former Norwich keeper Bryn Gunn, pulled off some decent saves to keep his side in it.

But, with the final whistle in sight, Fulham were to concede a goal in the eighty-eighth minute when Nelson Oliveira, on as a substitute, raced onto a chipped ball from Wes Hoolahan to beat David Button.

Fulham tried to respond but with so little time left just couldn`t force the issue.

For me, it is definitely a case of two points dropped as opposed to one gained, not the ideal start to the season but, as they say it`s a marathon and not a sprint.
