There's no sodding loyalty in the game and has'nt been since the 60s, clubs give the youngsters their big chance and next minute, poof!! they're off!!.
It does not necessarily need to be a bigger club that entices them away, its nearly always the money that has the final say, that and their greedy agents, but the players are too dumb to realise it.
Clubs like Fulham have a harder time of it than most, they buy a cheap player make them great and have to sell because the player no longer wants to stay, so whats the point of keeping them?
All this crud about 'he'll rot in the reserves' which we hear banded about is total and utter b@!!@ck$, every club is a business 1st and a football club 2nd!!!
YOU CAN'T KEEP A PLAYER THAT DOES NOT WANT TO STAY, you can however get the best deal for the club and thats what Fulham did with Luis Boa Morte when West ham came a knocking, thats what Spurs did with Carrick when Man U started their relentless pursuit of Carrick and so on, it does not make us a selling club it makes Fulham a business that gets the best out of a bad situation!!
Its player/agent power pure and simple but no player is going to stay when he gets offered a better deal elsewhere and no club is going to keep a player that does not want to play and the club can get 5m gbp for him.
