Coleman: the axe is swinging!

Fulham boss Chris Coleman is ready to wield the axe after Saturday's embarrassing defeat at Manchester City.

trikers Collins John and Heidar Helguson could be restored the starting XI after their recent demotion to the substitutes' bench, and Coleman admits he has a great deal to think about ahead of Saturday's visit of Reading.

He said: 'I will be thinking long and hard about the team because we need a performance.

'I will be keeping my cards close to my chest for a while yet but we do need to come out of the blocks and have a go at them.'

Coleman had taken off striker Brian McBride and midfielder Carlos Bocanegra at the end of the first half and John, who appeared in a double substitution with Icelander Helguson, had the ball in the net twice after the break, only to be flagged for offside both times before firing one that counted.

Coleman, who had recalled Senegal star Papa Bouba Diop for Tomasz Radzinski in the starting line-up, admitted: 'To be fair to Brian and Carlos I could have taken any of the players off at half time because they were all poor in the first 45 minutes.

'I still think the spirit in the camp is as good as ever but we missed an opportunity to get to the 20 points mark against Manchester City and we've got to make sure we make up for that against Reading.'

John has to be the best bet to play up front at the moment!

I was very surprised at the way we lost this one and am not surprised that Cloeman is flailing the axe about!!

The players were poor for 90 minutes, although it would be good for Collins John to find some form now!!

I think that John and Helguson should start, and have McBride AND Radzinski on the bench. I think that that is the best strike partnership that we can come up with, on present form. McBride hasn't scored in ages. John come on as a sub, and scored in the last game. Helguson always gives his all. Radzinski, I think is better suited to Midfield then up frount. And Runstrom needs a few more goals in the reserves before he can break into the first team squad.

should have done a lot better against a poor city............

They are below us in the league ad they still maneged to beat us 3-1. It's times like this that I really start to question Coleman's managerial skill. We have got four points in the last six games. But at the start of the season (Before Bullard got injured), we were winning most of our games. We can't be this dependent on one player, our squad should be good enough so that we can deal with it.
