Spurs set to steal Fulham winger.

According to 'The People` newspaper, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly going to make a bid for Portuguese international, Luis Boa Morte, when the transfer window opens in January.

Spurs boss Martin Jol is still desperately in need of a left winger, despite having a hugely populated midfield.

Jol, is reportedly going to offer cash plus Wayne Routledge, for the 29 year old Portuguese left winger.

Luis Boa Morte signed a new Fulham contract last season but Tottenham are still hopeful they may be able to land their man in a cash-plus-player deal.

Routledge is currently on loan at Craven Cottage and it has been claimed he could be part of the deal.



Martin Jol has always sung Routledge's praises and would like to keep him at White Hart Lane, but the need for a left-winger is a priority and Jol may have to sacrifice the former Crystal Palace man.

Routledge has not featured regularly for Fulham since moving on a season-long loan switch but his first-team chances at Spurs have been very rare since he joined the club, and made difficult to get into the team by Aaron Lennon and Hossam Ghaly.

In the Summer transfer window, Fulham star Steed Malbranque made the cross river switch to Spurs, are they now set to take another Fulham star.

Yes, of course he's coming to Spurs. We need a good left-winger and he fits the bill. He should feel extremely honoured that we want him and, much as I like your little club and your manager, there's no doubt what would be the better club to play for, is there?

Wait until January and see how all the talk about Leonardo, Boa Morte and all the other big name players suddenly comes to nothing and we end up buying someone we have never heard of, probably injured and unable to play for three months. Bring Routledge back and let him swap wings with Lennon, tell them both to go out and wander all over the pitch - that would cause mayhem in defences, with Huddlestone and Zokora bossing midfield, Keane and Berbatov up front and Defoe on his way to Newcastle.

Zokora hasn't bossed a midfield since he has been here, not sure what games you've been watching? He has been wasting far too much possesion lately. Early days though.

You guys seem to like the idea, but you are forgetting the size of your midfield already: Zokora, Murphy, Ghaly, Lennon, Huddlestone, Tainio, Malbranque, Jenas, Ziegler, etc, etc. Will you have room for Luis Boa Morte in your squad??? Somehow, I don't think so.

Ziegler wouldn't stay as I think Jol knows he hasn't got the quality. Not sure why he would buy Malbranque and Boa as well as having Lennonon the right with Ghaly as cover. We do have a lot of midfielders but they're not really doing it at the moment. Huddlestone owned the midfield against Port Vale but I would expect him to that against a team with less quality. Boa Morte always caused problems against us though, I like him as a player, needs to get rid of that whiny look he always has on his boat though!

The number of midfield players at Spurs is completely irrelevent for two reasons. Firstly, a progressive club (which Spurs are supposed to be) should always find ways to accomodate good players as they become available, full stop. Second, by reeling off this list you'll notice only one left-footer - Ziegler. In Boa Morte we are not talking about just another midfielder, but a specialist wide left player. And a final point, if finances are an issue we could always get shot of some of the dead or dying wood - Zeigler (not good enough), Davids (past his best and no longer warrants a place), even Murphy (never really settled and hardly inspires the team or the fans). Personally, however, I would repeat a recommendation I made in the summer, Kieran Richardson. Yes, his form hasn't been great this season, but has Boa's? Also, Richardson is younger and more likely to substantially improve with good coaching. And he's got a decent goalscoring record for a wide player, plus a cracking long shot. That's my two peneth.

Personally I think that Fulham should hold out for a good price and do to Tottenham what Wigan did with the Chimbonda transfer, overprice him but eventually get what you want!!

to be honest, from what i have seen of chimbonda this season, i would hardly describe him as overpriced, hes one of the hardest working players in the team and hes probably the best full back we've had in a very long time. i dont want to by boa morte myself, hes getting on a bit, hes an ex-arsenal man and i think we can do better with the money we would have to pay to get him.

Yes, you say that Ziegler is the only left footed midfielder in your squad. BUT Lennon, Tainio, Malbranque, Ghaly, Murphy and Davids can play on the left, you could even put Lee - Young Pyo in that list as he plays in that position for Korea. Plus I think that Boa Morte wouldn't want to go to Spurs, as he knows that he would never get in the squad.
