'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sunderland 2 Fulham 2

Fulham missed a rare chance to celebrate an away win when they let a two goal lead slip up at the Stadium of Light.

Having gotten off to a great start when Dejagah was fouled by Gardner in the box and the referee awarded a penalty that Dimitar Berbatov converted with ease, with sixteen minutes on the clock, Fulham doubled their lead on thirty-four minutes with a splendid counter-attack.

Defending a corner, Berbatov headed clear and Bryan Ruiz carried the ball forward, feeding Dejagah, who was racing away, his low shot wasn`t held by the keeper and Sascha Riether, of all people, was there to slip the loose ball home.

Unfortunately, Fulham didn`t get to consolidate their lead as Philippe Senderos felt a need to tug at the shirt of Danny Graham, the referee pointe do the spot and Craig Gardner made no mistake from twelve yards out.

The second half saw Fulham defend well but concede an equalizer with twenty minutes of normal time left when Stephane Sessegnon finished off a Sunderland counter-attack. Berbatov had seen his shot saved by Mignolet, in the Sunderland goal, almost immediately the ball was played to Adam Johnson and when he fed the ball through to Sessegnon he made no mistake with a left-footed strike.

Thats the problem with Senderos, he can be a good defender for 85 minutes of a game but he still makes school boy errors and at this level we are getting punished for it, Im still not convinced hes good enough at this level

agreed... there was really no reason to provide the ref with an opportunity to give a penalty like that, especially when he was prone to give one given the controversy over fulham's penalty kick... foolish play... senderos was also at fault for setting up sessegnon, as his toe poke clearance provided the perfect ball to smash home...
