'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jol Responds

Well you didn`t expect him to stay silent did you?

Following the outburst, from Clint Dempsey, relating to why he felt he had to leave Craven Cottage, Martin Jol took the opportunity at his pre-match press conference to give us a further insight into his departure, remarking,

'We did everything we could do so there are no regrets.'

'He wanted to be appreciated financially and he wanted a bigger club, a Champions League club, and that is what he probably got with Spurs."

'He didn't feel appreciated financially, but I am not the one deciding over the contracts. He said it time after time again that he wanted to go to a Champions League club."

'Even when I said in my last conversation with him that I loved him, it was not good enough to keep him here.'

All we`ll say is that if they don`t want to wear the shirt, get rid of them!

as a Spurs fan it is difficult to see Dempseys comments as anything other than being lame. I would have respected him far more if he was just honest and stated that his decision was football or even financial based as opposed to being unappreciated. that really is a useless excuse
