'If It's Football, It's Vital'

An Injury Nightmare

The return to full fitness of Steve Sidwell couldn`t have come at a better time.

With the midfield having been seriously depleted by the departures of Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu, Sidwell`s re-emergence has been like a breath of fresh air.

But, it transpires that Sidwell, courtesy of a bad run of injuries last term, almost gave up the game with the 29 year-old confessing to the media, ahead of the clash with Aston Villa,

"It was a hernia that turned into a groin problem, then an abdominal problem, it was a nightmare."

"The last operation could have been the last throw of the dice but it worked."

"There was a time when I sat down with my advisors to look at what circumstances I would be in if I had to thrown in the towel."

"That was a really bad time as football is something I`ve done since I was five years old and don`t know anything else." It was scary."

"Fortunately I had this operation that worked and I did all the rehab."

Lie we said earlier, glad to have you back Steve!
