In the Chase for a Flying Dutchman

A couple of news sources I stumbled upon infer that Fulham are in the market for a player that has an element of Premier League experience.

The inference being that Martin Jol is chasing the former Liverpool winger, now playing for Hoffenheim, Ryan Babel

Babel arrived at Anfield touted as the next superstar but things never really worked out for the Dutchman.

However, at twenty-five years of age, he should be in his prime and that fact is reflected in the fact that Tottenham, Newcastle and Swansea are all, also, showing an interest.

Not interested. He was not particularly impressive at Ajax, and decidely unimpressive at Liverpool and Hoffenheim. Potential only gets you so far. I'm seeing 6.5m euro transfer fee, which is just a laughable figure. Nope... not interested!

6.5 mil is too expensive, but he never got a fair shake at liverpool... that being said, i've seen too many dutchmen fail to deliver...

They were using the guy on a ******** wing, while his best position is up front. Of corse he failed to deliver! I wonder where will Dempsey play there, in a goal?!

Fair enough, but Liverpool had Torres up front and Gerrard in the hole. He was never going to displace either of them. So, in order to get him on the pitch, they put him out wide. Maybe he didn't get enough regular football at Anfield to judge him, but he did get regular football at Hoffenheim and did nothing with it. Regardless of what you think of Babel's talent, the 6.5m euro price tag is too high, and in my opinion, I think there's a likelihood that Jol would deploy him on the wing also. If his positioning is the issue, then it doesn't sound like a good fit to me. If we're looking at players at Hoffenheim, I'd much rather have Sejad Salihovic.
