Penalty Confusion

Sat in the Hammersmith End, I had a decent view of the penalty incident and how Mark Clattenburg deduced it was a penalty is beyond me.

Returning home, and watching a re-run of the match on Sky Sports, eve Gary Neville was a little perplexed as to why, apart form Murphy`s apparent intent, it was given.

Therefore, to hear that Clattenburg actually gave the spot-kick because of a foul by Stephen Kelly simply adds to the confusion.

Naturally, Martin Jol wasn`t entirely happy with the award of the spot kick but, like us, he did believe the least we deserved was a draw, with the Dutchman remarking afterwards,

"It was a soft penalty and it was a bit confusing. We thought it was Danny but he touched the ball."

"The referee said Kelly but that was an accidental collision. I thought Kalou tripped himself."

"But we deserved the point. They didn`t cause us many problems."

We`d agree with that view, Chelsea, to us, didn`t look like a team that could bat Barcelona or even finish fourth, something Jol also visited in his after-match interview with the Dutchman stoking up things by commenting,

"I think Spurs will finish fourth, they have all the quality. Spurs fans should be happy with us."

They`d have been happier if we could have beaten them!
