There are worrying words coming from the gaffer ahead of the difficult clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight.
It appears that any hopes we have of escaping being a 'selling club` are about to be shot down with Jol admitting that he may be forced to sell the more established players in our squad, also admitting that there has been interest in the likes of Clint Dempsey, Moussa Dembele and Brede Hangeland.
But more worryingly, Jol seems remarkably refreshed about the prospect of doing some wheeling and dealing in the hope of keeping our level of success going, remarking to the press,
"I am used to it because in Holland, for example, they do it all the time."
"They sell one or two and try to get even better by spending the money on younger players and developing again. That is what we are trying to do."
"I use my experience and background to find young players. I would love to have one or two each year to come from the development squad or even the Under-18`s"
To us it seems a huge gamble, a gamble that could see our Premier League status threatened, but returning to those used to it words, those with long memories might recall that it was Martin Jol who sold Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov whilst he was in the chair at White Hart Lane, bringing in big money.
But is money what it is really all about?
