Fulham 4 Charlton 0

Fulham 4 Charlton 0

At a Craven Cottage that had over 20,000 inside it, courtesy of reduced ticket prices, Fulham were to secure a safe passage into the 4th round courtesy of a hat-trick from Clint Dempsey.

Martin Jol fielded a strong side with Zamora leading the attack and young Frei getting a position in the starting eleven after an impressive cameo against Arsenal in midweek. Danny Murphy was selected to play against one of his former clubs.

Fulham - Stockdale, Kelly, Hangeland, Senderos, Riise JA, Murphy, Frei, Dempsey, Ruiz, Zamora, Dembele

Subs - Etheridge, Hughes, Sidwell, Kasami, Gecov, Duff, Sa

Fulham go off to the best possible start when Dempsey got the first of hos three goals as early as the 8th minute. The goal coming after Murphy provided a ball for the American to drill into the net past John Sullivan in the Charlton goal.

But Fulham didn`t have maters all their own way and David Stockdale had to produce two smart saves to keep the home side ahead.

But the second half was a different story as Fulham put their opponents to the sword. Just past the hour mark Dempsey doubled the lead when he linked up with Bryan Ruiz and produced a classy dink over the keeper.

Twenty minutes later Dempsey had his hat-trick when he smashed home form the penalty spot after Ruiz had been brought down by the keeper. And with Charlton a beaten team there was still time for Damien Duff, on as a substitute, to see his deflected shot make it 4-0

All in all a satisfying afternoon and this time tomorrow we`ll know who we have in the 4th round.

The final score flatters us. Stockdale had a lot to do to keep a cleansheet. But... I'll not complain too loudly about 4-0. Well done, lads.
