Fulham crashed to defeat, in South Wales; losing 2-0 to Swansea City.
Martin Jol had to do without the services of Danny Murphy who didn`t recover form the ankle knock sustained against Liverpool. However, he was able to welcome back Simon Davies who had been sidelined with an injury for some six months. Up front, there was no Bobby Zamora!
Team - Schwarzer, Kelly, Hangeland, Hughes, Riise JA, Etuhu, Dempsey, Davies, Johnson, Ruiz, Dembele.
Subs - Etheridge, Hughes, Briggs, Gecov, Risse BH, Frei, Sa
The first half was disappointing for those that had made the long trip to South Wales.
Fulham hadn`t conceded but in the first forty-five minutes, offensively, they never troubled a Swansea side who were proving more than adapt at keeping possession.
The highlights, if you could call them that, were all from our hosts with Gower providing a searching cross for Lita to head over before, just past the mid-point of the half, Moore clipped the bar with a strike from long range.
Schwarzer. Some thirty-five minutes into the game, was forced to make his first real save, keeping out a low shot from Sinclair.
Half Time - Swansea 0 Fulham 0
Swansea carried on in the same manner in which had seen them dominate possession in the first half with Lita spurning an early second half chance to open the scoring.
Schwarzer required three minutes treatment after a bad fall and Fulham were to soon fall behind through an unfortunate own goal from Dempsey with a shot from Sinclair taking a huge deflection to leave Schwarzer in no-mans land.
Fulham almost responded immediately but were denied by the Swansea keeper, Vorm, who pulled off a good save to deny Ruiz after he`d raced on to a great ball from Dempsey.
If Fulham were to come back from this they`d be the first team to win at the Liberty Stadium after Swansea had taken the lead.
Pushing forward, Fulham saw Vorm save a long range shot from Dempsey whilst Riise (JA) hit a fierce free kick close before Vorm produced a good save to deny AJ.
But Swansea continued to look dangerous and could have doubled their lead when Sinclair found their substitute, Augustien, who saw his shot hit the post.
Our hosts then wasted a glorious chance to make the game safe when Schwarzer pulled off a great stop to deny Graham in a one-on-one situation after he`d been put through by Augustien.
Fulham earned a penalty when Frei was brought down, Demspey strode up to take it and saw Vorm pull off a spectacular save. Not the way Clint would have liked to have remembered his 200th appearance.
Any hopes of getting at least a point were over when Graham turned a corner from Gower home.
Another bad day on the road!
