Ruiz Shocker

Our big-money summer signing may well have upset the apple-cart.

Bryan Ruiz has made some comments in a Dutch magazine that infer his move to Fulham may well have been money driven.

The comments read as thus,

"I didn`t want to go to Fulham at all. I was happy with Tottenham`s previous interest in me. They are a dream club."

"Attractive financial terms, and a talk with Martin Jol, dragged me over the line."

Clearly, embarrassed by the printing of these comments, Ruiz has back-tracked and issued the following statement to Fulham supporters,

"I wish to make it known to the club`s supporters that as soon as Fulham`s interest was apparent to me, and despite very public interest from other clubs, I was only ever intent on joining Fulham Football Club."

"The truth of the matter is I`m delighted to be at Fulham. I feel like I`m showing my true form."

Has anyone got any views about either statement?

It`s probably best if I keep quiet on this one!

Meh. It was widely circulated that he had been the subject of considerable interest from us. So I can see where he's coming from. However, it still doesn't change my belief that it was intensely disrespectful to both Fulham and BMJ, and personally I believe his career will be better for having moved to you instead of to us. We wouldn't have found space for him, what with Ade, VdV and Defoe playing so well, and we're at a level now where we can't afford to give people time to bed into the league; they either slot in straight away, or they're written off before their career has even begun.

Ye no news to spurs fans. We were originally considering him, but Haryr opted out. The whole time he was saying that he wanted to join spurs, but failed to materialise. The fact that he went to your club, although it sounds upsetting I dont think is bad. IN fact I like your team and him, dembele, dempsey, zamora, johnson and murphy are one of the good attacking teams in the league

"I feel like I'm showing my true form." I hope not. He's still clearly off the pace of the Prem. He is getting better, but he still needs to step it up considerably. On another note, participation is WAY down on this board since they required a log in each time you come to the site and want to comment. I hope VitalFootball watches their metrics and switches back. It's a small thing, but annoying.

He looks good, still off the pace ... papers re-package and quote players sensationally to sell papers.. that is their job!

Not bothered by it even if it's true. No matter who they're currently playing for, it seems like everyone wants to be somewhere else, particularly if they're non-English, and in that case, it seems everyone's career ambition ends with going to Barca or Real Madrid anyway. Tired, tired rhetoric from almost every footballer of consequence, I'm afraid.
