Very interesting to read, in the tabloid press, this morning, that somebody we had on loan last season wasn`t interested in a second loan spell at Craven Cottage.
Last season, Mark Hughes loaned in Gael Kakuta, from Chelsea, for the latter half of the season.
At the time we were under the illusion that Kakuta had been brought to Craven Cottage to offer us a few different options with our attacking play.
Unfortunately, the French youngster didn`t get to play as often as he`d have liked to with his path to the first team blocked by Damien Duff, Moussa Dembele, Clint Dempsey and Zoltan Gera.
During the brief periods of time when Kakuta did get some first team action I have to say his performances varied from being fairly impressive to being anonymous. I`ll leave you to offer your own thoughts on what sort of ratio one was compared to the other.
But the fact that we, supposedly, were looking to take him on loan again would suggest that, behind the scenes, somebody must have seen something that wasn`t visible that often on the field of play.
Being rejected can be painful but keeping an optimistic outlook on life, I can quite understand why he opted for a spell at Bolton Wanderers, as Owen Coyle seems more obliging when it comes to giving those he has on loan match time.
It remains to be seen though if we missed out on a chance to add some polish to this rough diamond!
