Fulham v NSI Runavik Preview!

Fulham v NSI Runavik Preview!

All day I`ve been contemplating a Match Preview for our fixture against NSI Runavik tomorrow evening.

The fixture heralds the start of our Europa League qualifying campaign, a place in the competition having been earned through our lofty position in the Fair Play League.

But after mulling over the preview for several hours, I`m still none the wiser as to what to write.

Commencing what basically amounts to our 2011/2012 season with Wimbledon still in full flow and the Open Golf not having yet started just doesn`t seem right.

I thought about looking at the two teams but to be honest I know absolutely nothing about our visitors from the Faroe Islands and when it comes to our own team I wouldn`t like to hazard a guess as to what starting line-up Martin Jol will select for his first game in charge.

Will he play his strongest eleven available, will it have a youthful look about it or will it be a case of mix and match?

So, admittedly this match preview is a bit of a non-event.

But Martin Jol has provided the media with a few words relating to the tie, commenting to the media,

"It`s not ideal but it`s the second or third time Fulham are in Europe through the Fair Play League. We`ll treat it like a friendly with a serious touch."

"I was talking to a friend who said they were from the Falkland Islands. I said 'No, it`s even smaller than that."

But there is one positive side, apart from being back in Europe, and that is a point made by Martin Jol whereby getting straight back into competitive football negates the need for a friendly programme, with Martin remarking,

"We have to play eight or nine games in June and July. Usually we play seven or eight pre-season games so it`s no problem."

So whilst I may not have much in the way of team news and I`ve even reluctant to forecast just how many supporters will go through the turnstiles, I will admit that I`m over-the-moon that the season is back under way already, it seems like only yesterday that it finished!

And as for a prediction, a comfortable Fulham win making the second leg, over in the Faroe Islands; almost meaningless!

let's hope so... i'd love to see stockdale, or etherington in net; briggs at left back; senderos and halliche at centerback; kelly at right i guess?; sidwell and someone in the center of midfield; riise on the right and a youngster on the left, or vice versa, with gera and one of the young forwards up front... that might be too light though...
