Staging his first major press conference after succeeding Mark Hughes, Martin Jol rejoiced in the fact that, at last, he`d got his return to English football.
The Dutchman, who could have joined us last summer, had this to say to the assembled news hounds,
"Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, I always said 'I`ll be back`. And here I am."
"England is THE football country in the world. I love English people, even if a few guys at Spurs were not nice to me."
"Even when I was living in Walsall, which is not the best of places, I have always loved it here."
"In Germany and Holland, I felt like I was on my own. In England, they look after you. The players take you out and London is one of the best cities in the world."
"To be a Premier League manager is as good a job as there is in football."
Some, charming words from the man who has two fifth places against his name with his previous Premier League club.
But, as for the expectation levels this time around, Jol continued,
"No one at Fulham expects us to get into the Champions League. We are not as big a club a club as Arsenal or Spurs but we have our ambitions."
Ambitions?
Mine have always surrounded winning a domestic cup. Is that something we can achieve under Jol?
