Tongue in Cheek?

Do I detect a hint of tongue in cheek criticism from our Swiss defender, Philippe Senderos.

Having looked the better of the two centre-backs that Switzerland fielded in Saturday, Philippe has stepped forward and poured scorn on all those who reckoned the poor performance given by England could be attributed to it having been a long and hard Premier League season.

Senderos has cheekily remarked,

"The season is long and hard for everyone. It shouldn`t be used as an excuse."

Clearly not as long for some as it has been for others though considering Philippe didn`t kick a ball in anger, courtesy of injury, until well into the latter half of the season!

But unfortunately he is right, this seems to be an easy to roll out platitude whenever England play badly, if it’s such a problem then why haven’t the FA addressed the issue by sorting out a winter break and also why doesn’t it seem to affect the foreign players that play in the Premiership?

Truth Sayer, they need 50k a week to be able to afford the specialist medical care that it takes so that you can run around for 45 minutes and not drop dead ;)
