Yellow Peril

The Fair Play League situation continues to merit discussion.

Although it`s seen two articles graces these pages already this week, we feel there is scope for more coverage.

Today, the red-top press are pointing out that the cluster of yellow cards our club has picked up in the last two fixtures, ten to be precise, could be seen as giving off the signal that we don`t really want to participate in the Europa League next season, especially with a June 30th start. And even more so when you recall some of the derogatory remarks that have seen their way into being published in the same reference red-tops.

However, quick to rectify the situation and pour scorn on the aforementioned suggestion, a spokesperson from Craven Cottage is quoted as having remarked about the whole situation,

"It`s just an unfortunate coincidence. All the management, players and staff are looking forward to the possibility of playing in Europe next season."

With the table being updated only on a monthly basis, it remains to be seen whether this glut of yellow cards will see us removed from the lofty perch we currently occupy, come the publication of the next table.

I suspect it we could well fall from grace and be headed by Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur!

Although we, if Spurs don`t lose their final home game of the season against Birmingham, should remain in prime position for that Europa League spot awarded to England.

You could see the frustration in the Liverpool match, which might explain the count, but Birmingham is a mystery as we were comfortable the entire match and then went about picking up 5 yellows in the 2nd half. I don't think the players or the manager want Europa League, and I don't blame them. It would be different if we qualified into the 3rd round (like last time), but not the first round.

i think we are looking too deeply into this lads....if we get into europa then great but i would rather have 11 players all with a yellow if it means we have beaten arsenal on sunday. What will be will be, i dont think at the birmingham game players were out to do this...just playing for a much needed away win after a shocking liverpool defeat!

i agree with leonestar... it's a bit too much to assume that hughes has instructed them to get some yellows, or that they themselves are up to no good to duck out of the europa league... it's an earlier start, but i think we can send our reserves to the first two rounds and manage...
