Schwarzer on Continuing His Career

How long can Mark Schwarzer carry on for?

The Australian, now thirty-eight years of age, continues to perform at the highest level and not too long ago was linked with a move to Arsenal.

As we all know the move never materialised and Schwarzer intends to stick around at Craven Cottage.

Ahead of our Monday night fixture with Liverpool, Mark has recalled that possible move whilst also giving an insight into why he considered it and also why he`s intent on playing on, commenting,

"If it had been anyone else other than a club in the top two or three in this country, then I wouldn`t have been interested."

"I`m 38, so it`s potentially my last port of call but I`ll continue as long as I can."

"Van der Sar is a great example to follow and someone I admire. To see someone of his age still playing at that level inspires me. I feel as fit as ever."

Our only concern is whether his current understudy, David Stockdale, will continue to be as patient as he has been or whether he starts looking elsewhere, particularly with his international ambitions having been whetted this season.

as good as mark is he is showing signs of ware and tear and at the risk of loseing young stockdale I would rather have him as first choice he has not put a foot wrong me thinks

next season stockdale needs to continue getting more games. if not we do risk losing him....but if he is patient, hopefully by performing well, he will become fulham's no. 1

it was great that mark s stayed and you can tell this in the way he has got on with is job! i think he will stay with us until he retires...

it will be a tough balancing act, as schwarzer's plan for retirement might not line up with stockdale play for playing day in day out... but the games should begin to be split... stockdale is the future and we must keep hold of him... and let's be honest, it is not as if schwarzer came up through fulham... if he needs to play more often than we're willing to let him, then find another squad... maybe arsenal will add in the extra money this year and nick him...

Based on tonight's performance, he's welcome to leave whenever he likes. He's been a good player for us; player of the season in 08/09, IMO, but it's Stockdale's time.
