'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Memories!

Not having any Fulham action to watch this weekend has proven to be frustrating!

Sat in front of the television, flicking between the numerous channels available to us, I decided to sit and watch what many people are perceiving as the quarter-final of the round, Manchester United v Arsenal.

Now whilst I might admit I enjoyed it, I didn`t find the game matched the build-up, once again it was pretty football from Arsenal but without any end product.

But it did give me a chance to have a look at two of our old boys, Edwin van der Sar and Chris Smalling.

Now they may be at opposite ends of their careers but both were hugely impressive.

Van der Sar pulled off save after save, efforts that defied those ageing years that will see him retire at the end of the season whilst Chris Smalling showed exactly why Sir Alex Ferguson was willing to pay such a large price for somebody so inexperienced.

On reflection, I couldn`t help wondering who is next on our conveyer belt of talent to end up with a big-club, Briggs or Stockdale perhaps!

It does tire me to see the products of fulhams development end up in the hands of the bigger boys. Thats how they stay onto to have the best of the rest at their clubs. Look at west ham. I dont like them, but if all their tallent stayed over the past 10 - 15 years, wow what a team they would have! I hope we atleast get some playing years out of stockdale and briggs. I think winning a cup would certain keep more youngsters.

Thanks for Smalling, he’s going to be immense!
Red Boy
that is true... but i hope stockdale stays... he could be a starter for years... briggs i haven't seen enough of to judge... however, smalling would still be rotting on the bench at fulham... hughes and hangeland are rocks in the back, without any real indication of stopping...

we dont need to sell and hughes wont let them go so we have a good foundation
