Fulham Youngster Almost Ready for Comeback!

Injuries can be a right pain, just ask Matthew Briggs!

Not long after getting his first team breakthrough the youngster picked up a calf injury and has been sidelined since.

But the faith the club has in young Matthew hasn`t wavered and he recently put pen to paper on a new contract.

Aside from that he also seems to have a pretty decent job of impressing Mark Hughes with the boss commenting, recently,

'We've been really impressed with Matthew, certainly since I've come to the club.

'He's had a few injury problems but hopefully he's over them because they were holding him back."

'When I picked him at Arsenal that injury came to the fore and we knew something significant was going on that needed to be addressed."

'Thankfully we seem to have resolved that and he can start featuring for us.'

And as for the security that new contract gave the youngster, Hughes added,

'It's important for young players to have the security knowing where they're going to be for a number of years and they can focus on developing as a player and person and make a good start to their professional careers."

With Hughes guiding him, there`s every chance Matthew will sustain a long career at Craven Cottage.

get him in the side... salcido is playing well, but i don't think he has a strangle hold on the position... we've always had an above average, but not great, left back...
It's nice to see the academy starting to pay off with several players starting to look like good prospects for the first team
