Fulham - Bentley A Possibility?

As Mark Hughes looks to stiffen his squad up and, similarly, our resolve to stay in this Premier League, rumours are doing the rounds that he could be desperately trying to secure the services of David Bentley.

Since leaving Blackburn Rovers, where he made 88 appearances under the leadership of Mark Hughes, Bentley has seen his career somewhat flounder in North London.

One stumbling block though could very well be the salary the player is on with a source, reportedly, close to Bentley, remarking,

"David is on around £60,000 a week and its unlikely Fulham could match that. But he had a great relationship with Hughes and is ruling nothing out. The only certainty is he will be on his way from White Hart Lane."

I think we`re about to find out just how persuasive Mark Hughes can or cannot be!

We desperately need to improve the midfield. A midfielder who can score would be even better. I'd try to get Bentley on loan, initially. If things work out, then maybe a permanent move.

more importantly, we would have a player who could hit a free kick... we currently have no one. when's the last time we scored on a free kick, and it wasn't the keeper's fault, it just was a well struck ball... bobby against birmingham? he's a bit injured at the moment, no? i'd take him.

I would not touch him....

I understand your concern Leonestar. If you had asked me about him 6 months ago, I'd have given the same response you did, but I feel like we're pretty desperate in midfield at this point. I appreciate Simon Davies loyalty and work ethic, but Bentley would be far more dangerous on the right flank and as Woody mentioned, it would be nice to have someone who was a danger on free kicks.

sound good on paper if the price is right
