'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mark Hughes and His Notion of Luck

Yet again, Mark Hughes' post match interview was dominated by him saying that we have had bad luck this season.

We have been fairly unlucky with the disputable goal being given to hand Tottenham the win at the Cottage, Bobby Zamora suffering a very unfortunate long term injury and Moussa Dembele picking up numerous injuries.

Yet it`s difficult to say luck alone is the reason we sit so low in the table. The performances have been average, the lack of quality back up within the squad has been highlighted by Zamora and Dembele's injury whilst some home matches we would naturally expect to win have ended with a lack of attacking flair scoring the goals for the win.

Though, yet again the similarities to the 2007/2008 season are showing yet again. Lawrie Sanchez, despite being a dreadful manager, did suffer some bad luck with the injury to McBride, Bullard already being out injured and occasions such as David Healy's 'goal' against Middlesbrough being ruled out despite being over the line which cost us dear points.

Hopefully the bad luck with the injuries will turn but Mark Hughes needs to realise there is more than just bad luck affecting our season.

All clubs deal with bad luck and injuries at some level. From the start through the Spurs match, we were unfortunate, but since then there are no excuses. It's been a combination of poor play and questionable tactics. I don't think Hughes is a poor manager, but I don't know that he's equiped to win with the squad we have at present.

that's the truth teddy... it'll be interesting to see what happens during the transfer window and if that affects us positively or not... there can be no excuses for dropped points at home... we've survived on our home form, and Craven Cottage is hardly a fortress this season... we need to improve, and we need goals...
