Fulham - Midfield Problems!

Fulham - Midfield Problems!

The trip to play West Bromwich Albion saw Mark Hughes having to field a makeshift midfield.

An argument could be made that his first choice quartet of Danny Murphy, Dickson Etuhu, Simon Davies and Damien Duff were all sidelined with various injuries, thereby giving the fringe players in our side a chance to show what they can do.

Unfortunately, it proved to be our undoing with Jonathan Greening and Chris Baird not being able to stem the flow of West Brom attacks.

In fact one wag next to me implied that things must have reached the desperate stage as Dikgacoi was on the bench.

With the squad stretched bare a case could be made that the midfield is an area that needs to be bolstered come the opening of the January transfer window.

Therefore, perhaps it`s now time to start putting forward names of suitable contenders.

Towards the end of Roy Hodgson`s reign, it was suggested that Fulham were interested in the young Southampton midfielder, Adam Lallana. Which is interesting because Lallana`s name is now being mentioned as a possible £3 million target for Stoke and Birmingham, could he be a possible January recruit to add a bit of youth to an area that might be described as a bit creaky age wise?

Greening is not Premiership material. We know this as a club as we didn't want to buy him, but got lumped with him anyway. Baird is not a natural midfielder so putting these to together was only going to cause problems.

Baird is a decent defensive mid, but he's hardly as good as Etuhu. As has been the cases for the past several seasons, we have no replacement for Murphy. I've been harping on this for what seems for forever, but WE NEED A LONG-TERM REPLACEMENT FOR MURPHY. For my money, O'Hara is the ideal candidate.
