'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Troubled Times for Baird!

These are worrying times for Chris Baird.

Back home in Ireland, hi smother has been the victim of a sectarian attack when a petrol bomb was thrown through the window of her house in Rasharkin, Co. Antrim.

Thankfully, the bomb, thrown during the early hours of the night caused a fire that was soon put out by passers by.

Reports also suggest that this is the second attack on the house in the last three weeks.

Both sides of the sectarian divide have commented on the situation with the local Sinn Fein politician, Daithi McKay remarking,

'It is quite clear they are being targeted because they are a Catholic family.'

"People are shocked and very angry that they have been singled out.'

Whilst the local Democratic Unionist politician, Mervyn Storey, has commented,

'Yet again we have another family subjected to sectarian hatred and unfortunately the reality is that since April of this year we have had something like 16 sectarian attacks in Rasharkin and 25 since the beginning of the year."

'It is a hate crime. It is someone venting their hatred and their anger for whatever reason on someone who should not be attacked in this way.'

Our thoughts are with you Chris!

As a Catholic and a football fan, I'm still disgusted that things like this happen within the UK. My thought are with Bairdy's mum and family. Nobody deserves that treatment.
