Fulham - Hughes Laments Zamora Loss!

Fulham - Hughes Laments Zamora Loss!

There`s no doubting that the awful injury Bobby Zamora suffered took the gloss off of our first Premier League victory of the season.

The realization that we`re likely to be without our star striker until January 2011, at the minimum, will hurt us as a team.

Following the last gasp win, over Wolves, Mark Hughes spoke about Bobby`s injury and also the tackle that caused it, remarking,

"Bobby got to a point where he was performing at a really high level, producing week in and week out."

"He has been banging on the door for England and now he`s out for four months minimum. The surgeon now has to go in and find damage other than the break, which is four centimeters above his ankle. So it`s likely that he will be out even longer. Bobby seemed in good spirits when I spoke to him but that was probably the gas he`s been taking."

"I don`t blame the player for the tackle. There is always a danger when you tackle from the side or from behind."

"But there was no intent. I was a bit disappointed that the referee didn`t even view it as a foul though."

With Bobby out for a long time, does anybody know when Andrew Johnson, another long term injury, is likely to return to assist Moussa Dembele?

Terrible loss, we had started the season with such promise. The thought of Zamora and Dembele linking up every week looked mouth-watering...

Get well soon Bobby but it was never a foul , Just how he fell , If bobby chased back and did that tackle on 1 of our players you would all be standing up applauding him !!!

I don't think the Zamora injury was a foul. Almost every other action by a Wolves player was a foul. At one point towards the beginning of the match I saw Zamora trying to win the ball, the Wolves player had his shirt pulled up around his neck. I could see all of Zamora's body, I thought the Wolves player was going to try and take his shirt off over Zamora's head! This was right in front of Phil Dowd... Dowd did nothing... Wolves got worse and worse. Dempsey would lay the ball off and try and go for an attacking run. The Wolves player would step in his way and body check him.... clearly cynical and deliberate... Dowd did nothing... Simply awful behaviour from Wolves and Dowd should be knocked down to referee in the Championship or League one as punishment

There were complaints about Wolves play in earlier games, but I didn't see any of them, so I couldn't comment. After Saturday, I understand the complaining. Zamora's injury was unintentional, but the clear result of Wolves new philosophy of football. I understand that the style makes a team hard to beat, but it won't earn you any respect.
