'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Talking Money!

Flicking through a few old newspapers, preparing to chuck them out (in the recycling bin off course) I noticed something that might prove to be of interest.

The Daily Mail has printed the reported figures European football earned some English clubs last season and also highlights the extreme difference in the amount of cash the two European competitions generate.

If we look at the Champions League we see that Manchester United earned £37.4 million, Arsenal £27.3 million, Chelsea £26.3 million and Liverpool £23.6 million.

Now if we look at the Europa League, a competition in which we reached the final, it`s a bit disappointing to see that Fulham only earned £8.1 million.

Not a bad sum of course but a mere fraction of what the big-guns earned - and so the financial gap grows bigger!

The disparity is understandable, but could be minimized by granting the Europa League finalists position in the qualifying stages of the Champions League. It would make the Europa League matter and at the very least give those who take it seriously a sniff at the big money. Of course, they'd still have to do what Spurs did last night and take advantage of the opportunity, but I think it would be a great solution.

Completely agree Teddy. Unfortunately the powers that be never come up with good ideas like that.

that would be nice... considering the losers of the champs league enter into the europa league... make it a two way street...

That would also make a huge difference to the sort of player you could attract to club, imagine if we had champions league football to offer players this season as an incentive to sign. It’s not just the money, although that’s nice as well

all makes good sence but it is all geared to help the biger clubs
