Fulham - So Far, So Good

2 Games played, 2 Points gained. All in all a pretty good start seeing as our opening two fixtures have been against an ever improving Bolton side and Manchester United. However, the cold hard stats don't need to be assessed as there seem to be plenty of positives manifesting themselves.

Firstly, we have the style of play. Building upon Hodgson's template of defending from the front seems to be the order of the day for Sparky. A typical Hodgson-esque dogged performance at Bolton was followed up with an impressive and classy attacking game against Manchester United. Yet, there have been other little subtle changes such as the slight change in Dickson Etuhu's game with storming forward runs being a new feature which has posed quite a threat in the opening games.

Next, the signing of Moussa Dembele seems like a massive positive. Sure, he only had 30 minutes but he seems bright and lively with a nice first touch. Yet, other things seem important about his signing. He is young so Sparky seems to be addressing a major problem facing the squad and the reported fee of £5 Million shows that Mo is willing to generously back another manager in the transfer market.

Finally, only a few weeks ago the impending transfer of Mark Schwarzer seemed like it would really hurt our squad but David Stockdale has brilliantly stepped up to the plate and in him we appear to have a brilliant talent on our hands.

Seems like we are in for another cracker of a season!

I thought Dembele looked good and he was willing to run and chase down the ball, a virtue that appeared to be lacking in Dempsey's performance much to the frustration of many fans near me. Stockdale has been great, I'm really not convinced we need Given or another. Stockdale needs a run in the team to help him gain further experience. But with Sparky referring to him as a 'boy', I think his intentions are clearly to bring in a replacement for Mark, should he leave (or not get over his 'bad back'). All in all a good start, although I'm not sure I'll witness another game as thrilling as yesterday's this season!

Deuce, great point about Dempsey, but as I've always maintained - he's not a forward and every time he plays in that role his performance dips. He's had his most success in midfield. That's where he needs to play. Unfortunately, with Hughes' new system, I don't know that there's room for him.

let's hope dempsey's given a run and can win hughes over... Dembele looked good, and he can attack with the ball at his feet, which is a dimension we lack... stockdale looks like he wants the No. 1 jersey to himself... and etuhu looks bouyed by the instruction to attack... all positives...
