'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fulham - Davies Quits Wales!

It must be the current fashion this retiring from international football lark!

Hot on the heels of the England duo of Paul Robinson and Wes Brown its now the turn of our Simon Davies to throw the international towel and decree that he is no longer available to represent Wales.

Davies, approaching 31 years of age, has 58 Welsh caps and 6 goals to his name but has decided that it is time to step aside.

Speaking about his decision Ian Walsh, Simons uncle and a Welsh football correspondent, remarked,

"Simon over his career has had quite a few injury problems, he has quite sore feet and he was going to see how pre-season panned out before making this decision."

"I spoke to him and he feels at this stage of his career, he`s 31 this year, is an important time for him and he felt it wasn`t the right time for him to carry on with international football sadly."

"Simon has loved playing for his country, he has played 58 times and he has always turned up for friendly matches, that to a certain extent haven`t been important matches but he has always been there and given everything he`s got."

"He has had some memorable moments in the Welsh shirt and is absolutely gutted to make the decision but he knows his own body."

Whereas upon hearing the news the Welsh FA issued a statement that read,

"The FAW would like to take this opportunity of thanking Simon for his service and wishes him well for the forthcoming season with Fulham."

The end of an era then!

This is no slight to the article, but I must say that I couldn't care less!

It looks like he really wants to be part of sparky's plans. We know of many older players who are bench warmers for their respective clubs, but still play internationals....good on you davies!
