Fulham - Living Within Our Means!

Rumours relating to Craig Bellamy and Stephen Ireland being on Mark Hughes shopping list were all the rage last week!

But it seems highly unlikely that either will get the chance to wear our famous shirt due to one reason - money!

The tabloid press seem quite keen to hammer home the point that Mohammed Al Fayed isn`t prepared to break our strict salary structure to bring in players and if they are not prepare to accept that fact then there is no chance of a deal being struck.

On one hand it seems a touch disappointing that we`re not prepared to go out on a limb for that odd special player or two but on the other you have to admire the fact that our club isn`t prepared to sacrifice its principles and place its whole future in a financial whirlpool!

I'm comfortable sticking to the wage structure, in general, but the age of the squad demands we reload at some point. If we have the chance to begin rebuilding the squad around the likes of an Ireland or O'Hara, I think it's worth it.

We should only ever exceed our wage budget for an 'exceptional' candidate and I don't think the likes of Santa Cruz or Bellamy fit that bill. If they're in serious want of first team football they should snatch at the chance to take under £50k a week.

Not spending beyond our means is the best thing a club can do. I don't ever want to see Fulham go the way Leeds, Pompey, Hull and Cardiff have gone. It may be annoying, I would gladly take the place where we are at now over any risk of being one of the idiotic clubs that grace our League when it comes to buying players.
Riverside Chanter
I agree that we should live within our means because with the right manager and squad of players, anything is possible.
Leonestar
that's surely is true leonestar... no need to put the club in jeopordy to bring in a couple of special players... rather finish top ten for 5 years then top 5 for 2 and then go into administration...
woodysweats
we need to progress like I always say a top class keeper we have and a 20 pluss goles a season man worth there weight in gold me thinks
