Fulham - Schwarzer Shock!

Fulham - Schwarzer Shock!

I`m not sure what it is this summer but certain transfer rumours appear to be going round and round.

Yesterday we commented on how Bobby Zamora and a link to Birmingham had resurfaced and now, today, the tabloids are once again focusing on the future of Mark Schwarzer.

Schwarzer, who according to the tabloids, has one year left on his contract, is once again being linked with a move across London to Arsenal.

Apparently, Arsene Wenger, in his quest to find a top notch keeper, has been frustrated by the transfer fee demands of his priority targets.

Therefore it`s being suggested that Arsene could, once again, turn his sights towards our thirty-seven year old Australian as a temporary signing who could give him a years` service.

Now the difficulty with this rumour is establishing how true it is?

Would Arsene take on a player of Schwarzer`s age knowing he has a penchant for nurturing young talent and if he were to make an offer would Fulham be able to stop Mark from joining a club that has Premier League title aspirations and Champions League dreams?

I guess we`ll know in the fullness of time!

Goalkeeper is not a position where youth is normally an advantage. Most keepers get better with age. I don't think they've given up on Fabianski, but they definitely need someone to see them through the next couple of season as Almunia's form has just tanked, of late. Little suprised to see Schwarzer's name, though. I would've thought it would be easier to go after David James, Robert Green or even Sebastian Frey (Fiorentina).

David James? I thought Arsene wanted to get away from calamaties!

Yeh, but I'd take him over Almunia. Besides, unless he becomes player/manager, I'd be surprised if he stays at Pompey.

i can see this happening as well, but 37 is a bit old for a new signing, even at the keeper position... quite honestly, if you were arsene, why wouldn't you try to pry him away from fulham?
