Fulham - Murphy on the Route to Hamburg!

As the side prepares to take on another European giant, in the shape of Atletico Madrid, in the Europa League Final, it`s interesting to read a reflection on the route to Hamburg, by our captain.

Danny Murphy has been an integral part of the Fulham side as they`ve defied the critics and beaten some of the biggest names, in European football, to reach the final.

Now, as he prepares to lead the side out in front of 50,000 spectators in the Nordbank Arena, Danny has recalled what he believes to be the defining moment on our mammoth European adventure, Juventus at home.

As you`re probably aware, it was a tie that Danny missed after being red-carded in the previous round but we`ll let Danny take up the story,

"When I was in the stands at Craven Cottage and David Trezeguet scored after two minutes I contemplated going home."

"It was 4-1 on aggregate at that point. I felt like leaving. When we got through the Shakhtar tie and then drew Juve, you kind of think 'It is another big team, can we do it again over two games especially against a side of such quality?"

"I think they had four or five World Cup winners in that side and it was something that will live in the memory."

"That was probably the night where everyone started to believe it could be a special year in this competition."

"I think that night in particular has been pivotal in this journey."

It certainly has and when, or if, the club gets around to releasing a DVD of this magical European adventure, I wouldn`t mind betting the dramatic recovery against Juventus will be the piece of action adored by the majority. That is unless we defy the critics again and trump Madrid tomorrow evening!

We've beaten 'better' teams the entire tournament. Absolutely no reason to think we won't win tomorrow.
