Fulham - Roy`s Thoughts on Last Night!

Fulham - Roy`s Thoughts on Last Night!

The media can make or break a manager!

Therefore, last night, it was particularly pleasing to hear that upon entering the press conference, following our great 2-1 win over Hamburg, a win that put us in our first ever European Final, the media rose, as one, to applaud (Sir) Roy.

His achievements, in the competition, have seen him mentioned as a leading candidate for manager of the year, although the way the cookie crumbles in that award it`s highly unlikely it`ll ever be anyone other than the title winning manager who grabs it.

Nevertheless, being flavour of the month, at least sees the club portrayed in a favourable light by the media, always an added bonus.

Following the win last night, in front of a Craven Cottage that rocked, Roy was quick to put his feelings into words, remarking,

"We made a major piece of history here. The atmosphere is something we will remember for a long time and we`re delighted to be in the final."

"Many teams might have crumbled after their goal but our players kept their heads."

"In the past two-and-a-bit years I know the players are not going to let me down."

"The character of this team has been proved time and time again. They consistently surprise me that they continue to show such character."

"Normally such success softens you and you are not so determined to get such success. But that hasn`t happened with this team."

"We are in the final for no other reason than we have played very well in some difficult games."

The list of teams we`ve beaten, this season, in the Europa League, reads like a who`s who of European football and now we stand on the precipice of a fantastic achievement.

Who`d have thought that back in July when the squad disappeared to Lithuania for a qualifying fixture!

It has been a pretty mad run, and it looks like no matter what happens in the final we'll be back next year courtesy of the Fair Play League. I have to admit I wasn’t sure if it was a good thing back in July with our small squad and the early injury to AJ just seemed to confirm that maybe it would be a cup run to far, I don’t think anybody will be looking at it like an unwanted distraction this time, it really has been Magic In (Sir) Roy We Trust

I was thrilled when we made the knock out stages. Being in the final is just amazing. What a great reward for a team and manager that play football the right way and do it with class.
