Fulham - The Nicky Shorey Conundrum!

Back in January, when the transfer window was open, (Sir) Roy Hodgson pulled off something of a smart move when he signed Nicky Shorey on a loan deal.

Shorey had been on loan at Nottingham Forest, from his parent club Aston Villa, and came into a Fulham squad ravaged by injury.

The full back proved to be an instant hit and it was easy to see how he`d attracted international recognition, albeit whilst at Reading.

At the time talk was of pushing on to secure a regular place and even the possibility of securing a late call up for the England 2010 World Cup squad.

But it all seems to have gone a little flat for Shorey recently with the most activity the full back has had being warming the substitutes bench.

Therefore, with the small matter of the season coming to an end we`ve another of our little teasers for you to mull over.

If you were (Sir) Roy, would you say you`ve seen enough to sign Shorey on a regular basis or has his contribution always been to merely fill the void left by the injury to Paul Konchesky?

Your comments would be most welcome!

Konchesky is more attack-minded and is guilty of the odd defensive lapse. Shorey is more solid defensively. They're both about the same age. I really don't think you gain or lose much with either. I don't think there is room for both. Pick one and start getting Buchtmann ready.

Of course, we could settle the whole thing by trying to sign Figueroa from Wigan. That would be my preferred solution. Even if Wigan were willing to part with him, he'd probably go to a bigger club than little ol' Fulham.

Although he's obviously a left back I thought Shorey might also get played out of position at right back as cover for Pantsil as we've struggled to fill that position. So surprised Shorey hasn't played more for us. He looked quality when he has played though

I think he would be great for the squard.

Sign him!!! I feel that in a squad you need specialist defenders and with the way roy plays and organises his unit. Our squad for next year should have 2 left backs and 2 right backs. So that could be konc and storey on left and pantsil and ? on right. Dont rate kelly!

i like shorey more than konch... i don't think that the offense gained from konch makes up for the defense lost... i've watched shorey get forward and deliver balls into dangerous positions, and i like that he is so solid defensively... sign him up!
