Fulham - Hughes Thinking of Looking Back!

Fulham - Hughes Thinking of Looking Back!

With the troops on route to the Ukraine to play Shakhtar Donetsk, and defending a narrow 2-1 advantage, it really is hearts in mouth time.

Shakhtar showed us at Craven Cottage that they have the technical ability and skill to make life extremely hard for us in the second leg.

Roy Hodgson has already spoken about his fears relating to his players getting too tired to maintain the form they are showing, however, our defensive rock, Aaron Hughes, is using the challenge to motivate himself in a different way.

The veteran defender, a veteran of European campaigns with a previous club, Newcastle, is looking way ahead in the distant future knowing that it is nights like tomorrow 9Thursday) that will spring to mind when you reflect on your career, when he remarks,

"We know we`ve got Ajax or Juventus in the next round, so it`s a nice incentive."

"That`s what European games are all about. At the end of your career, it is the big nights in Europe you remember."

Taking into account our poor away form, if we can progress to the detriment of the current UEFA Cup holders, then that is going to be one hell of a European night to remember!

Agreed. A couple of years ago, could you have even imagined Juventus or Ajax at Craven Cottage in anything other than a off-season friendly?

As my asinine coach used to say, if you can't get up for a night like this, check your pulse... everyone's right once, right?
