Fulham - The Golden Oldies Show!

Fulham - The Golden Oldies Show!

After getting home from Craven Cottage, safely, I thought I`d do the usual before heading off to the public house for a celebration drink or two.

And that normal being to scan through various news feeds to read about how those who report for a living viewed our performance today.

In doing so I stumbled across a fact that stopped me in my tracks and a fact that is a little worrying!

With Roy Hodgson having already suggested that a lot of work will need doing on the squad this close season I didn`t realise that age could be a problem.

According to one posting left Fulham Football Club picked up something akin to an award today, an award that I`m not sure I`d be glad to acknowledge.

In selecting Schwarzer, Baird, Hughes, Hangeland, Shorey, Gera, Duff, Etuhu, Murphy, Davies and Zamora, we fielded the oldest average age starting line up in the Premier League this season, with the average age being 30 years and 173 days!

Does that concern you?

Experience does help but i think Al Billy was meaning does it concern you to think how quickly these players may drop in speed/skill level/general fitness etc. Remember Shevchenko? European player of the year to having the turning circle of the Titanic in one summer, crazy! Anyways, good luck Fulham and your fans, would like to see you's in the Europa League next season. :)

I've been droning on for the past year or so about our overall age. If it's not an issue now, it will be soon enough. Defintely something that needs to addressed in the summer.

agreed... we need to get younger... danny needs a replacement... we have one for schwarzer in stockdale... i can't imagine we let him leave for anywhere... duff's more a stop gap for this year and maybe next, but not for the future... riise can step up hopefully... but we need to keep getting younger...

I think Duff is more than a stop-gap. I wasn't too keen on his signing, initially, but he's more than proven his worth. I really think he was crucial early in the season before Zamora and Dempsey started scoring. I think Duff has at least a couple of years left in him.

Perhaps 'Age Concern' could use us as their new poster boys!

You all Ageist barstewards.....With age comes experience, stamina and a certain amount of......well I'll leave that to my missus hahaha.....No seriously there is so much change year on year and with increased levels of fitness and healthy lifestyle, players are lasting longer. Look Smallings was going to be a future Fulham player but has moved on. Okaka is on loan and could be permanent. Players move so much now. Pompey and West Ham have younger players, look where they are. Chelsea are the pensioners!!!! As I always say IN ROY WE TRUST! (till he goes)
