Fulham - Smalling - How Much?

Yesterday we ran a plethora of articles relating to the ever-breaking and ever-changing news regarding the possible, nay probable transfer of Chris Smalling to either Manchester United or Arsenal.

Quotes in the tabloids this morning, attributed to Roy Hodgson, suggest the player is bound for Old Trafford, when he remarks,

"The club has accepted an offer from Manchester United and as far as I know that`s where he`s going."

But, yesterday the price quoted was in the region of £8 million, today some papers are implying that the deal is more like £12 million, if so, no wonder a deal has been done.

All that money for a player who has now started a mere 2 Premier League games - the world has gone mad especially when you consider the financial plight some clubs are now finding themselves in!

I'd imagine that after all the clauses £10M-£12M will be the figure. Obviously it will be based on appearances, trophies won, international caps etc. If he turns out to be crap, it could be half of that. If he's good, then its good business for both sides.

yeah i can see it escalating up towards 12M... i still wish we could have held onto him...

I think it's a good monetary deal for us. Even though he is only at 20, I think he's at the peak of his pricing. If he ever did make it big in our first team...there's still no guarantee, with us still being in midtabe, that he would achieve up to £12 million again. If big clubs see potential though, they pay big!

looks like Ferguson is willing to sell Vidic this summer then!

Its a surprising risk in these times but man u have a few ageing injury prone defenders, glad he is staying for the rest of the season.....we need him
