Spurs 2 Fulham 0

Spurs 2 Fulham 0

Fulham`s dreadful away record continued with yet another defeat on the road. Goals in each half, from Crouch and Bentley, saw the defeat make it four on the trot for Roy Hodgson`s men.

With regards to the starting eleven, Roy Hodgson was once again able to call upon the services of his top scorer, Bobby Zamora, Bjorn Helga Riise kept his place in the side after his display at Accrington Stanley and Dikgacoi was a surprise starter in midfield. Chris Smalling, apparently bound for Old Trafford, was forced into action with the side shorn of defenders due to injuries to Konchesky, Pantsil and Kelly.

Right from the off Spurs were on the offensive with Mark Schwarzer having to pull off a good save to deny Tom Huddlestone followed by more angst when Peter Crouch put a good headed chance wide.

Fulham`s first real attack of note came when a lovely Zoltan Gera flick put Bobby Zamora through but Gomes reacted smartly to foil the returning striker although the keeper had t receive some treatment for his efforts.

With twenty-seven minutes played, Spurs took the lead and the goal was a poor one for Fulham to concede. Bjorn Helge Riise tried to keep the ball in play, when on reflection he shouldn`t have bothered and Luka Modric took the opportunity to find Peter Crouch who netted from close range.

Spurs continued to apply the pressure and Tom Huddlestone saw a shot fizz wide. As half time approached both Dikgacoi and Riise saw shots blocked by Michael Dawson. Half time and 1-0 to Spurs!

No substitutes were introduced at half time and Spurs had a glorious opportunity to increase their lead when David Bentley produced a peach of a cross that saw Wilson Palacios head the chance wide. Unfortunately, on the hour mark, David Bentley put the game out of our reach with a second goal.

Aaron Hughes committed a foul on Gareth Bale and Bentley saw his free kick, from approximately twenty-three yards, strike the unfortunate Bjorn Helga Riise and totally wrong-foot the unlucky Mark Schwarzer.

Bearing in mind our disastrous away form it was game set and match to Spurs with only a Duff low volley troubling Gomes.

first, i think riise was trying to sheppard the ball out of play when he should have just hoofed it wide... and it really was incredible to see a player who played roma off the pitch, and has been in good form, give such a lackluster performance... i don't really blame the second goal on him, and even the first was a comedy of errors, as schwarzer was culpable as well, but he was just dominated on both sides of the ball by bale... it's also interesting to see how badly we rely on an offensive right back... hughes just didn't cut it...

The scoreline doesn't even reflect how poor we were. We looked overmatched. Tactics were poor. Midfield was overwhelmed.
